Customers not subject to metered charging will be charged in accordance with the Company’s Standard Rateable Value Charges unless the Company has agreed to charge one of the other unmeasured tariffs below.

Contents of this page:

Standard Rateable Value Charges

The charges comprise the following:

  • an annual standing charge on all properties with a Rateable Value
  • a charge calculated by multiplying the Rateable Value of the premises by a rate in the £ as specified in the Schedule of Charges
  • if applicable, a charge for sprinkler or hosepipe use
  • if applicable, a charge for swimming pool use.

Notional Rateable Values

Where it is not possible to charge a Customer by a Standard Rateable Value, a notional value allocated by the Company by reference to a similar premises in the Valuation List as at 31 March 1990 will be applied where :

  • Premises did not have a Rateable Value at 31 March 1990, (including but not limited to places of worship)
  • Premises are created from the sub division of premises having a Rateable Value at 31 March 1990
  • In the absence of clear evidence to the contrary the Notional Rateable Value will be taken as the sum of the individual Rateable Values of the properties that have been merged.
  • Premises have a Rateable Value of less than £50 which is not representative of other similar properties in the Valuation List.

Domestic Assessed Charges

The Company recognises that there are some Domestic Premises where it is not possible to install a meter for technical reasons. If the Company is unable to comply with a Measured Charges Notice because it would involve unreasonable expense, the Customer will be offered the Domestic Assessed Tariff.

The charges will be based on the average household bill shown in the Schedule of Charges, also:

  • if applicable, a charge for sprinkler use and
  • if applicable, a charge for swimming pool use.

Commercial Assessed Charges

This scheme is available to any Customer of non-Domestic Premises if the Customer applies to install a meter and it is not reasonably practical to do so.

The charges comprise the following:

  • an annual standing charge
  • a charge calculated by multiplying the number of employees by the assessed annual consumption by the rate per cubic metre shown in the 'Charges' section.

Payment Dates

Should all prior year unmeasured debt be settled then the charges are payable:

  • annually in advance on 1 April, or
  • in 2 instalments due on 1 April and 1 October in each year.

If requested by a Customer, payment may also be made by instalments as follows:

  • 10 monthly instalments from April to January (inclusive) payable by payment booklet, standing order or direct debit on the 28th of each month.

A Customer occupying Domestic Premises may, on request, pay by:

  • weekly or fortnightly instalments of equal amounts payable, or
  • weekly instalments of variable amounts

Using a booklet of payment slips or a standing order arrangement.

Failure to pay half yearly and instalment payments on the due dates will result in the full amount billed becoming immediately due and payable.

All prior year unmeasured debt still outstanding MUST be settled by 31st March, unless a payment arrangement has already been agreed with the Company. Failure to comply with this will mean that the total current year debt, plus the arrears, will become payable on 1st April. Action will be taken to recover this debt in the usual manner and in accordance with our Debt Collection Procedures.
