Meter Installation

If the Customer gives the Company a valid Measured Charges Notice it will install a meter free of charge at its preferred location which will normally be at or within one metre either side of the boundary of the property at the point where the service pipe becomes the responsibility of the customer. The meter will be installed within 3 months from the date of receipt of the Notice by the Company, unless it is technically impossible or would involve unreasonable expense. Unreasonable expense includes, where necessary:

  • the cost of separating a shared supply pipe
  • the cost of installing more than one meter
  • the cost of alterations required to existing plumbing

If the Company decides that installation of a meter would involve unreasonable expense, the Customer may ask the Director General to determine whether the Company should install the meter free of charge.

If the Company does not install the meter within 3 months (unless the delay is due to the Customer):

  • metered water standing charges will be charged from the end of this period and
  • consumption charges will be calculated on the subsequent actual meter readings after the meter is installed

The Company will consider installing the meter at a Customer’s preferred location if the Customer agrees to pay any additional cost.

Meter Maintenance

In general, the Company will be responsible for the costs of installing a meter at existing premises supplied on a non-metered basis, where the meter is installed at its request or where the Customer gives a Measured Charges Notice.

The Company will own and maintain the Metering Equipment.

The Customer must take all reasonable and proper care of the Metering Equipment. If any damage occurs because the Customer fails to do so, the Company may require the Customer to repay any expenses incurred in repair or replacement.
