The Fittings Regulations make a number of significant, phased changes to WC suites. These are best explained with reference to the timetable for introducing the developments:
From July 1999 to December 2000
Maximum flush volume remains at seven and a half litres.
WC flushing by siphonic mechanism only. Relaxations of this requirement to permit the installation of non-siphonic mechanisms in non-domestic premises are available if certain criteria are met. Please contact us for details.
Dual flush cisterns permitted, but only with a siphonic mechanism.
From January 2001
Mandatory reduction in flush volume to six litres for all newly installed suites.
Introduction of a high performance specification to cover the entire WC suite, to include endurance testing for the siphonic & non-siphonic mechanisms & improved tests for the effectiveness of the flush. The specification will ensure that sanitary ware continues to satisfy consumer expectations while also improving its water efficiency.
Dual flush cisterns permitted for any mechanism & suite passing the performance specification.
Existing WC flushing devices can be replace with non-siphonic devices provided the unit flushes the same volume as the cistern already in use.
