Water for wildlife

Water for Wildlife (WfW) is a unique partnership supporting wetland conservation across the UK. It aims to coordinate the wetland work of the Wildlife Trusts working with Water Companies, The Environment Agency and other Partners. The project was initially envisaged as a 3 year approach from 2004 – 2007 and is now being extended to 2010 with support from more water only companies in England.

Funding from the Environment Agency and Water Companies along with volunteer days worked by local people through the Wildlife Trusts has enabled:

  • Wetlands and rivers to be maintained or restored
  • Otter and Water Vole surveys to be undertaken to help with protection and conservation
  • Wildlife walks and talks to raise awareness and share knowledge
