Determined Pedallers raise £1,216 for WaterAid

In July 2007 Staff member Sue Past and her husband Philip set themselves the challenge of raising money for WaterAid by taking part in a 100km bike ride through the Peak District . As “The Folkestone Flyers [Not Quite Past it!]” they signed up for the annual Mountain Cycle Challenge, organised by Severn Trent Water.

Colleagues at Folkestone & Dover Water Services and elsewhere, plus Friends and Family supported them by pledging more than £900.00 to WaterAid before the event.

Folkestone & Dover’s Managing Director David Walton also promised that the Company would add its own support to The Folkestone Flyers’ fundraising by matching every £3.00 raised with £1.00

Unfortunately, on the day of the event they didn't complete the original challenge route, but Sue & Philip went on to successfully ride their own 100km route 4 days later.

This determination so impressed their sponsors that they kept to their original pledges and, as a result, a cheque for £1,216.00 was sent to WaterAid. This was the most sponsorship raised by any of the cycling teams taking part in this year’s Severn Trent Mountain & Cycle Challenge and will enable 75 people to benefit from WaterAid’s work.
