Folkestone and Dover Water Services Limited accepts its statutory duties to comply with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and subsequent revisions, together with other relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
The Managing Director is responsible for the implementation of this policy. Difficulties that cannot be resolved are referred to the Managing Director. The responsibilities of Managers and employees are detailed in Annex G of the Management System Manual.
The Company holds the view that safety is a fundamental responsibility that ranks equal to other business activities and the management team operate with this in mind.
Systems are established for the setting and monitoring of targets and objectives, ensuring compliance with safety legislation and the health, safety and welfare of employees and any other persons who may be affected by the activities of the Company. Regular Management Review monitors the extent to which the implementation of this policy is successful in minimising and controlling risks.
The management team have specific responsibilities for health and safety and must carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments, monitor work in progress and activities under their control. The Company will provide adequate protective clothing and equipment.
No safety policy can be successful if it does not involve employees themselves. The Company co-operates fully in the appointment of safety representatives by recognised trade unions and will provide sufficient facilities and training to carry out this task where necessary. Regular safety committee meetings involving safety representatives will take place.
With regard to co-operation, the Company reminds its employees of their own duties under Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, to take care for their own safety and that of others and to assist the Company to carry out its responsibilities successfully. Employees are required to co-operate and do everything they can to prevent injury to themselves and others. This includes removal of hazards by keeping all work areas tidy and using guards, protective clothing and safety equipment provided and observing all safety rules and safe working procedures.
All employees have a duty to report accidents and any incident they believe could have caused injury or damage. Employees also have a duty to assist in the investigation of accidents or incidents with the aim of introducing preventative measures.
The Company commits itself to continual improvement in health and safety, supporting this is a commitment to training and retraining. In addition we work with our contractors to continually improve their health and safety performance.
This statement is displayed in a prominent position at all work places. This policy and all health and safety arrangements are available on the Company Intranet for reference by any employee.
This policy will be reviewed in consultation with the safety committee in light of changing legislation and employee or public concerns. This statement is brought to the attention of all employees and contractors along with their duties regarding it.
